Unreal Editor

UED

I've been utilizing UED for more or less seven years now. I made lots of maps (especially on UT99 & Tactical Ops 2.2). The works I'm presenting below were designed with UED3 (Unreal Tournament 2004). I'm very fond of good old fashioned deathmatches, and I particularly enjoy duels. This being said, I would very much enjoy working with UED on a more adventure-oriented title!

This map is called DM-Matthews-Strokoiev. The navigation requires practice as the doors are a bit narrow - now I know what "adapting scales to level design" means - and the chokepoints are overlooked by windows from where people can use the sniper or bio rifles. The global look of the map is inspired from anticipation or horror movies (Total Recall, Aliens, etc). The sex-shop in the middle of it is the map's landmark: the vivid colors make players able to identify zones they're in and thus let them navigate more easily. The map and textures are available here.

This other one is called DM-Angst. I used it as an example to teach UED to a friend. It wasn't supposed to be playable, so the corridors are way too narrow. The atmosphere seems to be a success, though. The map and textures are available here.

UED

Here's another one, called DM-Colony. I wanted to see what the Unreal Terrain Editor was capable of, in order to prepare for a SupinfoGame exercise. In the end our teachers never asked us to use terrains, but I really enjoyed working on the map and creating realistic landscapes. Plus, I liked the idea of an arena with huge hills that would block the view of the participants.

It's a winter morning. Four bunkers are facing each other, each with roof and underground accesses. Players sniping from the roofs have to watch their backs for people going out of the elevator exit - behind them - and be aware of the others snipers on the opposite roofs. On the center of the map, in the snow, awaits the Redeemer. It's the typical arena map. Of course, some would say that the Redeemer doesn't have its place in a real deathmatch level - but I liked the idea of people struggling for it while being shot at by the snipers above.
